If you ask any football fan born in 1975 or earlier, they will have known Southern Methodist University as a powerhouse football program. SMU contended for bowl games, national titles and Heisman trophies. They did all this while committing countless NCAA violations. The NCAA handed out the death penalty to the school in the late 1980’s. Due to this harsh penalty, SMU has since struggles to be more than just a bottom dwelling football program.
